Touch screen locked

I have a bb bold and somehow managed to lock the touch screen, functionality available via the key pad are still availiable, when the device is unlocked, but anything I need the touch screen for is no longer available.  

On the screen there is a lock-icon in the lower right hand corner which I never recognized before...

What do I have to do to get access to the screen again ?

I also sometimes have this issue. Just try to restart device using alt + aA⇧ + del. It can take 4 – 5 minutes.
