Tour 9630 keeps switching off

The phone keeps switch off, if the phone is not locked. It feels as if the phone has developed a soft botton which keeps pressing when in unlocked state.

Re: Tour 9630 keeps switching off

Hello!

Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

Otherwise, I recommend that you attempt to boot into Safe Mode:

  • KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Mode

It may take you multiple attempts to get the ESC key sequence (press/release/hold) correct, so be patient. When successfully into Safe Mode, think carefully...what happened just before this behavior started? A new app? An update? A Theme? Something else? Think carefully as the smallest change could be causal...and attempt to undo whatever that was.

Good luck and let us know!

Re: Tour 9630 keeps switching off

The reboot doesnt work and I am not sure what I would have to do after starting my phone in safe mode.

Ummm...sorry to be exact, but words are all I have to go on. Do you mean it does not help? For, "doesn't work" would imply that it doesn't even reboot at all...which would make no sense.

Basically, see what happens. If the behavior ceases in Safe Mode, then one of your add-on or 3rd party apps is to blame, and the logical thing to consider is whatever you most recently installed. Or, whatever you've installed since your BB last worked OK.

If the behavior continues in Safe Mode, then you'll need to consider more drastic remedy attempts -- WIPE, OS Reload, BBSAK Wipe/Reload, etc.

Good luck and let us know!
