Tour 9630 restarting itself

[ Edited ]

my blackberry first lost its backlight on the keypad and then the scroll button kept jumping around. Now finally my phone wont register or come on.It keeps on restarting everytime it comes halfway on the bar then the screen display flashes & it goes on like that the whole time.I took the battery out but it doesnt help and i even tried to put the phone off also to no avail.

Re: Tour 9630 restarting itself

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

It sounds like something is very wrong. But, think carefully...what happened just before this behavior all started? A new app? An update? Something else? Think carefully as the tiniest thing could be causal...and undo that if you can. You may need to use Safe Mode, if you can:

  • KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Mode

Otherwise, you may need to attempt an full OS reload...here's some information...

At the top of each device forum, there should be some "sticky" threads that discuss the OS levels available for each model. Please use those as reference as you proceed.

From a PC, you can install any compatible (e.g., for your exact BB Model Number) OS package to a BB via this procedure:

Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC. You can even use a different carriers OS package by simply inserting, between steps 1 and 2, the deletion, on your PC, of a file named VENDOR.XML. Be sure that you remove, from your PC, any other BB device OS packages as having more than one installed to the PC can cause conflicts with this procedure.

If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:

  • KB19915How to perform a clean reload of BlackBerry smartphone application software using BlackBerry Desktop Software

If you can't get this to work (even with the BB in Safe Mode), then you may need to also obtain the BBSAK utility (bbsak.org)...use that to attempt a clean wipe and then reload of your OS (which must already be installed to your PC, btw). You may need to try a few times to get BBSAK to recognize your BB, trying to connect to the USB cord at different points in the boot-attempt process. But you should be able to get there.

Good luck and let us know!

Hmmm...not being able to see what you see, I can only guess with that report. So, what did you try? It can be tricky to get a BB into Safe Mode, so you might have to try several times, experimenting with the hold/release of the ESC key to figure out what will work in your case.

If nothing will work for Safe Mode, then please continue to follow through with everything else I recommended above. If you get lucky, you might for instance get BBSAK to recognize your device while the loading screen is present (on your device) and perhaps properly wipe/reload it.

Good lcuk!
