In this case we can try to reload the software on the BlackBerry smartphone to make sure it is running the latest version and there are no issues with the OS.
To do this we would need to back up the BlackBerry smartphone. Please open the BlackBerry Desktop Manager and connect your BlackBerry smartphone. Click on the Backup and Restore button and select Back Up. Please note the location where the backup is being saved as we will need to access it later to restore the BlackBerry smartphone.
Once you have backed up your BlackBerry smartphone please follow the link below to complete a clean reload of the BlackBerry smartphone software.
Test the BlackBerry smartphone before restoring the backup.

my trackpad was working perfectly for about 5 months - then suddenly 1 day it began to get stuck/ freeze. i've upgraded the software last week but the trackpad still freezes. putting it on standby mode for about 10 minutes seems to help unfreeze it.
Any solutions to this irregular problem? Are the people at blackberry even reading our posts?

I'm having the same problem and I've had my phone for less than a month. I spent an hour online with tech support on Saturday. They backup up my phone, wiped it clean and reloaded the spftware. Worked fine unti Sunday afternoon and started freezing up again. I'm going into my local store today and asking for a replacement. Obviously I got a lemon.

I'm having the same problem at the moment and I've had it for only 4 months. I've tried to reboot a few times but didn't work. The problem kept coming back and really I'm dissappointed. I mean I live overseas and I just can't have my Blackberry replace that easily. Really I expected more from RIM. it cost me US 450 dollars and I don't think I'm gonna pay 450 dollars again!

I had this issue litterally an hour after I left the AT&T Support store.
I first ried everything, the battery pull and installing the latest OS and nothing worked.
My first suggestion is to just return it and get a new one, but for me, after returning my 9700 3 times and going through the pain of re-installing all my apps, I tried to resolve it myself first.
I got it working so far, and my resolution isn't by any means because I know what I am doing, but just took some advice from a bunch of posts and see what worked. It might just be a fluke but it worked for me.
I dismantled my 9700 using the instructions here. I should warn you that you definitely need the right tools before you start this, but its pretty easy once you do.
I took it all apart and disconnected the trackpad from the device and gave it the good old nintendo blow on the connection points on the trackpad and the device. Connected the trackpad back to device and gave the connection point a light tap with the backend of my screw driver.
Put it all back together, and then changed my settings for Audible click for trackpad.
Its been several hours and I haven't experienced a frozen trackpad yet. This might not give you that much confidence, but keep in mind, my 9700 trackpad froze every 10 minutes
