Re: Trouble Installing Desktop Software

Hi jktigger63,

Try downloading and installing the latest version of the Windows Installer -

Windows Installer 3.1 Redistributable (v2)

Let me know how this works.

Re: Trouble Installing Desktop Software

Thanks for the suggestion.  I tried updating the windows installer, but it did not help.  I still get the same error.  Also, I get this error with both, the installation disk that came with the phone, and with the newest download (4.5) from the blackberry website.

Thanks!

Re: Trouble Installing Desktop Software

Never seen that message like that before, but, i would start with rebooting your computer and when it comes back up, close any anti virus software or any type of software that would limit accessability to the system ie firewall software, etc. And then try re installing the software from the download again since it would be the latest version available.

Also, curiously, how far does it get before it gets that installer pop up?

Re: Trouble Installing Desktop Software

Try renaming the .exe file that you downloaded to .zip and extract the contents to a directory and double-clicking the BlackBerry Desktop Sofware.msi file.  Also be sure that anti-virus or anything that could possibly stop the running of a script is disabled.

Re: Trouble Installing Desktop Software

I rebooted, disabled McAfee virus scan, and turned off windows defender.  I got the same error.

It pops up after the windows installshield wizard window on the bottom right hand side goes away (the blue bar goes across once, and is about 2/3 across the window the second time).

Thanks for all the ideas/help!

Re: Trouble Installing Desktop Software

That worked!  Now I get to actually start trying to use the blackberry device!

Thanks for all the help!

Re: Trouble Installing Desktop Software

I had the exact problem that appears in this thread.  It isn't clear what solution finally worked for you.  Please let me know.  I have tried just about everything.  I had the Desktop Manager working with no problem, but my IT people needed to change my desktop name in  order to access a new server.  Now, no matter what I do (uninstall everything) I can't get it to install from the download or the CD.
