USAGE OF DATA

I request a quick response fro knowledgeble sources on my problem being faced.

When I am in WiFi range also data charges are being levied causing much inconvenience.

If I turn off DATA, I am not getting connectivity even in the light of being in WiFi range

Re: USAGE OF DATA

If you're being charged for data while you're on WiFi, you need to dispute that with your mobile provider.

When you ARE on wifi, On your Manage Connections screen, click on the Services Status.
What is the status of the BlackBerry Internet Service?

It should say "WiFi" or "Wireless Network".

If it says "Mobile", you're not on WiFi.

Re: USAGE OF DATA

ALSO >> You have your mobile phone number listed as your "My Mobile Provider" or carrier. Putting your phone number out on the internet on these public forums for the world to see, is not wise. To change that, at the top of this page click on My Settings > Personal Profile > Personal Information, and in the entry block for "Carrier" type the name of your mobile provider.

Re: USAGE OF DATA

While thanking uou for attempting to resolve my issue, I may say:

The Black Berry Torch 9800 is sent by my daughter from US to me placed at Hyderabad.

I am not on B B Internet Service but I am on locan Provider AirTel.

Now back to the ISSUE,

I did check "Connection Screen" and the "Service Status".

It reads as follows.

Phone NO: XXX XXX 5521

Status: Available

Connection: Mobile Network

BB Internet Service / Connection: Not Connected

BB Enterprise Server: / Connection: Not Connected.

Mobile Network: Coverage: 3G & Provider: Airtel

WiFi Net work:

Active Profile: linksys

SSID: linksys

Type: Not Connected

Bluetooth? / Status: On

With the above scenario Please guide me as to what I should do to avoid charges levied for data used even while I am in my protected WiFi area.

Thanks for your support once again.

Re: USAGE OF DATA

Those specs you copied indicate you are NOT connected to a WiFi router, and that you are only connected to the mobile network.

I am not on Black Berry Internet Service but my Service/ Network Provider in INDIA is AirTel.

Now back to the ISSUE,

After getting your reply inter-alia stating that I am not on WiFi, I did check once again the "Connection Screen" and the "Service Status".

It reads as follows.

Phone NO: XXX XXX 5521

Status: Available

Connection: Mobile Network

BlackBerry Internet Service

Connection: Not Connected

BlackBerry Enterprise Server:

Connection: Not Connected.

Mobile Network:

Coverage: 3G

Provider: Airtel

WiFi Net work:

Active Profile: linksys

SSID: linksys

Bluetooth

Status: On

On the HOME PAGE, it shows: airtel - linksys

With the above scenario Please guide me as to what I should do to avoid charges levied for data used even while I am in my protected WiFi area.

Thanks for your support once again and feel sorry for bothering you.
