The workaround is to carry out a Security Wipe.
Make sure you have backed up your phone in BB Desktop first.
Then go...... Options > Security > Security Wipe.
You will lose your data but this is easily restored from your backup.
The Security Wipe takes about 30 minutes. But once complete and your data restored then you hae a fully functioning phone.
It worked for me.

security wiped everything, still cant get in, now cant get enterprise server working either, beyond frustrated and totally staggered RIM havent sorted this, my playbook is only used a coffee cup stand and my 9900 which was £450 no more use than a £10 nokia, has anyone heard any news from RIM about solutions, so sad because when it works this pohone is the ultimate!

this is absurd. this issue has been going on for far too long without a suitable solution (i.e. not a security wipe or hours of work to fix a problem that was created by Blackberry to begin with).
I am getting an iphone

I had the same problem on the Torch 9810. I did a partial security wipe of the user installed applications which didn't seem to work (but it did wipe out the compass app so be warned !). So I did a full security wipe (email, contacts, and applications) and then did a "clean reload" of the software using the desktop software. The compass application is back and the Blackberry ID account is now working. A lot of hassle for what is clearly a problem that RIM needs to sort out urgently.
