Unable to recognise SD card. 'No card inserted'

Have just received my 8310 back from repair from Vodafne who have replaced my old handset for a different handset, just swapping over the Sim card and Sd card. Great, but unfortunately new handset doesn't recognise SD card not keen on formatting as will lose data saved. Unable to download data on card on to PC either, as PC doesn't recognise the card either.
