Uncaught exception java.lang.illegalargumentexception

I seem to be having a lot of our BB curves coming up with this error message:  Uncaught exception java.lang.illegalargumentexception - seems to come after an enterprise activation.  I have done the whip of the device and reload of the software to version 4.5 using desktop manager.

Has anyone had this issue before - is there something I should be looking at?

Re: Uncaught exception java.lang.illegalargumentexception

This error message shows up once you enter in your password on the device - before you do anything with the device.

These two resolutions will not resolve this issue.

Re: Uncaught exception java.lang.illegalargumentexception

these are in specific areas and if you actually READ the first option. it lnks to another option to do a clean install... thats a pretty generic answer. I would follow the clean install from the instructions on the linked article within the 1st article on 1 of your devices and see if it resolves it.

Re: Uncaught exception java.lang.illegalargumentexception

I have done a clean install a few times on different devices - I've even had Rogers Support connect in and do a clean install as well and we still seem to be at the same point.  The error message still appears.

Re: Uncaught exception java.lang.illegalargumentexception

Could there be something with the enterprise server that would cause this sort of issue once the device is activate on the server?

Re: Uncaught exception java.lang.illegalargumentexception

it is quite possible... remove from the BES and try using without activating... after it works for acetain period of time  without BES activation, then activate again and see if it causes it... if that is causing the issue then you wil need to talk to RIM

Re: Uncaught exception java.lang.illegalargumentexception

I was facing the same problem on a 8310 and a lot of Bold's 9000 and this is how i fixed it

Problem:
First activation of a new Blackberry 9000 is working fine, but after a wipe of the device, during startup (after closing the wizard) you get the message
"Uncaught exception: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException"

Cause:
The Company Policy that was sent to the Blackberry by the BES server has left its tracks on the device and needs to be overwritten

Solution:
All solutions like wiping the device, reinstall OS, etc did not fix this. What did was the following:

After a wipe, just activate the device with a BES account, disregarding the java error.
When activation is completed, use the BES to send the "Default Policy" to the device
Shutdown the device, take out the battery, put it back in and start up
Now the error will not appear and all will function fine
Once again, use the BES, but now to send the "Company Policy" to the device
Shutdown the device, take out the battery, put it back in and start up again

Now your Blackberry is up and running again without any java errors and with the Company Policy

But what if I'm not using a BES account?
