Unrecognized Blackberry Device

I have a blackberry 7280 and when I tried plugging it in to the computer, the desktop software for PC said it was unrecognized. Is there any way I could make it work or is my phone not supported no matter what? btw: It is a used blackberry that was from amazon. And would I mess up anything if I reset it and try again since the person who sent it never reset it?

Re: Unrecognized Blackberry Device

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

That is a rather old model, I do hope you did not pay much for it...given what you say, I would have deep concerns about it's ability to properly function at all...refer to this:

  • KB05099 Steps to take before selling or after buying a previously owned BlackBerry smartphone

If the seller did not properly complete ALL of the Seller steps, then it is quite probable that there is nothing you can do to make it functional...

Nevertheless, you would need to find an OS package for that model and install it to your PC, along with the Desktop Software. You can dig for OS packages here:

I've no idea if you will actually find one for that old model, but if you do, install that to your PC and perhaps that will help the Desktop Software be able to recognize it.

You also may need to try older versions of the Desktop Software, which you can find here:

Hopefully those go back far enough for your model...it's tricky trying to use devices that were EOL quite some time back, as all current toolsets would have dropped it from their ability to be compatible with.

Good luck!
