Here is the official documentation about how to update your device software:
But basically you will need to download and install the desktop software from the blackberry.com website, and the device software you can get by going to google and typing in " YourCarrier Name blackberry device software"
Once you have installed both of these items do a backup of your blackberry and then exit out of the blackberry desktop manager. Go to C:/program files/common files/research in motion/apploader/loader.exe and run the application. go through and when you get to the screen that shows an advanced button click it and make sure both check boxes are checked then hit next and then finish, your software will be reloaded and upgraded.
-if you are using a 64bit OS on the computer replace program files with program files(x86)
-if asked for an auto backup choose "do not auto backup" as you should have already done a backup.
Hope this helps

Ooh ooh... quick question:
I have a carrier plan. After I upgrade my Curve 8520 OS to v6.0 is it going to affect my carrier settings?
Wiping the handheld did not, but before assuming I would like to ask first.
Will I have to pay a visit to my provider to reset everything?
Or will the OS update only affect the phone's software and nothing carrier plan related?
