I was hoping someone here may be able to help me, 1st off I have the 9700 bold on a Orange contract in the UK, and I also have the full BB data package.
At the moment I am away working at sea and have had no problems using my phone on the ships wi-fi, 2days ago I updated my phone as I always do by downloading the update via my desktop software and directly updating my phone after a backup.
But this time I have got a problem, since the update I have been unable to use the wi-fi, each time I try to sign in to MSN chat on the BB it comes up with an error message ' Data Services Unavailable' and I can no longer use the BB messenger also.
Any help to solve this issue would be great.

Look in Options >Advanced Options >Browser. What options do you have for "Default Browser?" You should have Hotspot Browser but what else?

Ok. When you are on wifi does the wifi logo turn bold or does it stay greyed out? Have you updated while on the ship's wifi before?

If it's staying greyed out then it's not getting a connection to the BB data system. It could be a wifi problem and not a problem with your device. After an update the device needs to register on the wireless network. It's possible that it's not able to get that done over the wifi connection. That's why I asked if you had done an update like this while on the ship before.
