Upgrade Curve 8330 to v5

Followed the instructions and have the v5 installer downloaded to my desktop.  Updating the device requires that the device be disconnected yet when launched there is a message requiring a PIN number and the connection of the blackberry.  Guidance sought

Can you please clarify the steps you are following to update your BlackBerry® Device Software?

What happens when you try to perform the update by following the steps in any of the following KB articles?
