Upgrade to 7.1, no carrier

Hello! I would like to upgrade my Blackberry Bold 9900, but I have a little problem. My Blackberry is not associated with any carrier, and I only find versions of the software that are provided by a carrier.

My question is...is there any official version of the software 7.1 provided by Blackberry/RIM that I could download?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Upgrade to 7.1, no carrier

You can install any carrier's release of the operating system to your BlackBerry.

Device operating system releases are "released" by specific carriers once they have certified and trained their support techs, but still, you are able to load to any carrier's same model by following the instructions below.

See the link below for the download, and follow these simple installation instructions.

First locate your carrier and the OS file you wish to use.
http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp

Do a backup of your device first, using Desktop Manager > Backup. Close Desktop Manager upon completion.

1. Download the OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

Re: Upgrade to 7.1, no carrier

Thanks for your reply JSnaders!

Isn't there another way of download the update? Now, my Blackberry has the software 7.0 of no carrier. I turn on my phone and there are no messages or logos of a provider. What I want is to know if there a version of the software that don't belong to a carrier.

Re: Upgrade to 7.1, no carrier

It doesn't matter. But no, there is no "generic" released operating systems, and the fact that your device currently has no carrier logo on the flash startup screen means nothing.

Your device STILL has a vendor ID, you can find it by:

On the homescreen, Press and hold down the ALT key + Shift key + H key all at the same time.

You will see the Vendor ID a couple lines down... what is yours?

I have the same problem, and my vendor ID is #612 and the platform is 5.0.0.544   do I still do the update that you have mentioned above?

Yes, same process. Find the latest version of the Operating software you want to use.

Follow those instructions.

By the way... VendorID 612
