Vista Recognizes BB, Some BB Desktop Functions not working

Couldn't find a solution for this anywhere.

 

Pearl 8100 

Desktop Software 4.7.0.37

BB OS: 4.5.0.124 (2.7.0.92) (east asian language pack).

PC OS: Vista

 

I used this exact install of desktop to install this OS.  Backed up before hand.  Everything worked fine.  Got my chinese character support.

 

Now, when I plug in via USB:

PC sees the blackberry (as hard drive) 

Desktop Software "sees" the blackberry (displays pin)

Desktop Software can "install updates/applications" (apploader working fine).

 

But intelisync fails and backup operations fail.   In fact, when I try to perform any intelisync operation or backup at all, I get

"Failed to connect to the device. Please make sure that the device is properly connected and try again".

 

This occurs even when the desktop software displays the pin, the apploader works and the microsd is viewable as an external HD.

 

I don't have an up to date back up so I'd really hate to wipe!

 

Let me know what I have to do!
