Where do I find the synchronization log?

Hello.  I'm new to the forum (and Blackberry), and I've learned a lot the last few days browsing the posts;  solved a few issues thanks to the many posters.  So far, I haven't come across the solution to one problem.  When I synch my Storm, I get a message: "There was a total of 2 reconrd(s) skipped during the synchronization as summarized below:  Address Book: Device -0, Microsoft Outlook -2.  Please check the synchronization log for more details."

Number 1.  What would cause the skipped records?

Number 2.  Where is the synchronization log?  Using some information I found elsewhere, I look in the Program Files/Research In Motion/Blackberry folder, where there is supposed to be a PIN folder that contains the synch. log folder--but the PIN folder does not exist.  I tried creating the PIN folder and re-synched, but that didn't work.  Is the log located somewhere else for the Storm?

It seems logical if you need to view the log, RIM should provide a link to it along with the message, so you could jump right to it.  Palm has always done that, and it can't be very difficult to add this convenience for users.

Re: Where do I find the synchronization log?

The skipped records are very likely two groups you might have created ON the BB, which are not synced to Outlook.

Your sync log is located in Desktop Manager > Sync.

Re: Where do I find the synchronization log?

Thanks for the prompt response, but I'm not sure I understand you suggestion re: finding the synch log.  If you mean find Desktop Manager >synch through My computer, I can't locate the file.  If you mean go through the Desktop Manager Main Menu / Synchronize screen, I don't find it there either.  Please clarify.

I don't recall what version of DM you are using, but in DM 4.7, DM > Sync > Synchronization > View Log.

Re: Where do I find the synchronization log?

Duh!  I guess I need a remedial reading class!  You were correct (of course!).  I found the log just where you said it was.  But I'm not sure how this log will help me to resolved the "skipped entry" issue.  I've posted the text of the log below:

Re: Where do I find the synchronization log?

That ^^ sync didn't include your Address Book.

I think your two skipped records, nevertheless, are just what I mentioned in the first post.

Re: Where do I find the synchronization log?

Although the log doesn't list it, it does synch my contacts--I just added a contact to my BB, and when I synched, it appeared in my Outlook contacts.  It also syncs my calendar.  I can live with the message every time a synch, but it would be nice if there was a way I could get rid of it.....

Re: Where do I find the synchronization log?

Get rid of your groups in BB Address Book, or live with it.

Re: Where do I find the synchronization log?

[ Edited ]

This message annoys me, too.

If you want to see the synchronization log for your contacts, you need to go to "Synchronize"/"Configure Synchronization"/"Synchronization" and disable everything but synchronization of contacts. Otherwise, the log file gets overriden by subsequent synchronization items. (Seemingly, the coder of these modules wants to use "append-or-create" instead of just "create" as file open mode for the log file.)

BUT: The log file does not help me at all. Obviously, I am too stupid to read out the cause of this oddity. (Sorry I can't publish the file as it contains all of my personal data ;-)) Any suggestions?

BTW: I did not create any groups or something on my BB - at least to my knowledge.

Re: Where do I find the synchronization log?

ToGe,

Thanks for the info, even if it doesn't solve the problem.  It's annoying that the contact log gets overwritten when doing a full synch; you shouldn't have to go through all those steps just to read it.  Hopefully someone will address this issue in a future update.
