SMOKEHOUSE is right, you need the data service plan for blackberry from your service provider.
i have tmobile and i have the same issue right now because I did not order the blackberry data plan when i got my phone.
I am pretty sure that is the reason why. So just call up your service provider and all the data/internet plan for your blackberry phone and you will then be able to access the internet via WI-FI.

I am on T-Mobile and I can surf over wi-fi but I can't synch anything. I think you need a data plan in order to do any sort of synching. I have my browser set to Hotspot Browser and I can hit Gmail, Weather Channel mobile and Wells Fargo (bank) no problem. It works at home on my 128 bit WEB wi-fi and it works here at my company on their unsecured w-fi. I haven't tried anything yet at a coffee shop or other John Q. Publioc wi-fi but again, I can surf over w-fi with no data plan.

Ok guys I have GREAT news!
I litterally just got off the phone with t-mobile and spoke with a blackberry specialist!
I orginally called to add the blackberry Internet package, thinking thats what I needed to use wi-fi and Boy was I wrong!
The Tech Rep, Told me that I did not need the blackberry internet package to use WI-FI. And I said are you sure? and she said... Let me show you!
So She took me to Options, Then Advance Options, Then Browser, and under "Default browser configuration" she had me change it from "t-mobile" to "Hotspot Browser" and I connected to my WI-FI connection at work and was amazed! I was surfing the internet, downloading apps, and on messengers doing my thang!
She said the reason why I couldnt surf before was because since i had that setting set to tmobile, my phone thought that i was trying to connect to the internet using the tmobile cellular internet sevice which i did not have a subscription for and thats why it never worked.
So all in all, I am correcting my answer from a previous post about the same issue, letting you guys know that if all your other wi-fi is setup right, then this is definitly the last thing you need to check to make sure you can surf the web using WI-FI.
Hope to see some post that said it worked for you guys!
Thanks for reading and Good luck!

That how it always is!
But Im glad you got rid of that little headache like I did!
F.Y.I - I just found out that you cant use any Instant messenger apps, or any third party apps when using your wi-fi connection if you do not have the blackberry data plan on your phone service which really sucks!
but here is the link to the post to give you more information about it!
