Wifi won't connect

Ok my pearl 8220 is able to retrieve the settings from my linksys wireless router no problem but is wont connect to the internet. I've tried all the security, wireless setting combinations I can think of but it still wont work, even with no security enabled. On the manage connections screen i get, checked box Wi-Fi "network name in green" with the white dash where the green check mark or red X is. Thanks for any ideas

Re: Wifi won't connect

I have the same issue. I have WiFi at home and hoped to connect with the internet. I don't have a data package yet with Rogers and i was told by their reps that without it, I couldn't access the internet at all regardless. I use my blackberry for email, text messaging and phone calls.I had thought when you go into those coffee houses and other places that offer free WiFi I would try it once and a while. These free Wifi areas don't affect your data plan at all but you have to purchase that option if you want to surf. It would be interesting to see if that is true or not or am i doing something wrong.

Re: Wifi won't connect

SMOKEHOUSE is right, you need the data service plan for blackberry from your service provider.

i have tmobile and i have the same issue right now because I did not order the blackberry data plan when i got my phone.

I am pretty sure that is the reason why. So just call up your service provider and all the data/internet plan for your blackberry phone and you will then be able to access the internet via WI-FI.

Re: Wifi won't connect

I am on T-Mobile and I can surf over wi-fi but I can't synch anything.  I think you need a data plan in order to do any sort of synching.  I have my browser set to Hotspot Browser and I can hit Gmail, Weather Channel mobile and Wells Fargo (bank) no problem.  It works at home on my 128 bit WEB wi-fi and it works here at my company on their unsecured w-fi.  I haven't tried anything yet at a coffee shop or other John Q. Publioc wi-fi but again, I can surf over w-fi with no data plan.

Re: Wifi won't connect

Well im with Rogers and I have a smartphone plan with data on it. I can surf over the rogers network fine but not over a wifi connection. Yes, in the manage connections screen it shows i am connected to my home network, but there is the white dash whereas mobile network is a green checkmark. I looked in the help app on it and it says "White: Your connection to the wi-fi network is turned on,but your device does not have access to Blackberry Services over a Wi-Fi connection. Or, your connection to the network is turned on, but your devie might not be using UMA" After looking at that i looked in service status and blackberry internet service connection: not connected, tried a Wi-Fi diagnostics option, looked through that and saw UMA Wi-Fi Available: green checkmark, Connection: red X

Re: Wifi won't connect

Ok guys I have GREAT news!

I litterally just got off the phone with t-mobile and spoke with a blackberry specialist!

I orginally called to add the blackberry Internet package, thinking thats what I needed to use wi-fi and Boy was I wrong!

The Tech Rep, Told me that I did not need the blackberry internet package to use WI-FI. And I said are you sure? and she said... Let me show you!

So She took me to Options, Then Advance Options, Then Browser, and under "Default browser configuration" she had me change it from "t-mobile" to "Hotspot Browser" and I connected to my WI-FI connection at work and was amazed! I was surfing the internet, downloading apps, and on messengers doing my thang!

She said the reason why I couldnt surf before was because since i had that setting set to tmobile, my phone thought that i was trying to connect to the internet using the tmobile cellular internet sevice which i did not have a subscription for and thats why it never worked.

So all in all, I am correcting my answer from a previous post about the same issue, letting you guys know that if all your other wi-fi is setup right, then this is definitly the last thing you need to check to make sure you can surf the web using WI-FI.

Hope to see some post that said it worked for you guys!

Thanks for reading and Good luck!

Re: Wifi won't connect

Alright well I'm with rogers and I ended up calling them too and they gave me more or less the same answer. I'm suprised that there isnt a tutorial somewhere explaining that or if there is then its pretty well hidden. But yeah, now me wi-fi status indicator is solid and I have the green cheackmark in the manage connections screen. Amazing how its always a single or simple thing which is the answer. Thanks guys

Re: Wifi won't connect

Yeap!

That how it always is!

Something simple!

But Im glad you got rid of that little headache like I did!

F.Y.I - I just found out that you cant use any Instant messenger apps, or any third party apps when using your wi-fi connection if you do not have the blackberry data plan on your phone service which really sucks!

but here is the link to the post to give you more information about it!

Unable to Use Instant Messengers!
