I am such a wet behind the ears newbie to the bb8310, that even the very specific chart given in a previous post brings up questions for me.
The chart that was given:
BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.0 - Up to 2 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.1 - Up to 4 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.2 - Up to 4 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.3.0 - Up to 8 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.5.0 - Up to 8 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.6.0 - Up to 16 GB
Under options >> advanced options >> applications, my bb8310 says:
bb 4.2 core applications
bb 4.2 system software
then the rest of the list such as attachment service, messenger, video, brickbreaker, browser, memopad, etc., etc., all say bb 4.2.2.
My BlackBerry 8310, is brand new... as of yesterday... why would I be getting an old 4.2 OS?
So... can I run a 4 GB, or am I restricted to a 2 GB?
Sorry to make you give such a concrete answer,

This is due to the fact that your carrier is yet to accept device OS 4.5. RIM provide new OS to each carrier for their evaluation and acceptance. After that carrier need to conduct a UAT on the new OS features. Once they send the UAT data to RIM they give green signal for distribution of that OS to its subscribers.
So once your carrier accept the new OS you can use it in your device.

If you plan to upgrade the OS as soon as it comes out, you can save yourself some money,
Install the 8gb card, The BB will only recognize 4mb, due to your current OS. When you upgrade,
the full 8gb will be recognized. This was you only have to buy ONE memory card.
Please let me know if this helps!
