bbm chat history

hi guys im a newbie here so please be nice

ill try to explain as fully as i can...

On my 9360 i saved my bbm contact list back up on my memory card, but i think the chat history saves to the device? ive never "backed up" the history to my memory card so it should be on the device shudnt it? Anyway what i want to know is i did a security wipe on my phone which is supposed to clear all the data i was wondering if a security wipe would of cleared that history, And also after i did the wipe i "restored" my bbm contacts from the back up on my memory card will that of only restored the contacts and NOT the history? Or does the bbm contacts back up contain both the contacts and history for each of the contacts?

Hope ive explained this well enough if not ill try to be more clear

Thanks

Re: bbm chat history

You can choose to save your chat history to your device memory or to your Media card. Of course, I don't know which you did.

So, a device security wipe would clear the chat history saved to the device memory, but not if you saved it to your media card.

Re: bbm chat history

i think it saved to my device because on my memory card there was only ever the contact back up that i made which i chose to save to the card.

so are the contact back up and the history 2 seperate files? i was just wondering if my contact back up contained the history or not.

thanks

Two separate files.

You can choose to save one or the other, or both.

Now, if you DELETE the chat history, and if you restore a contact, often the recent chat with that individual will also sync back to your device, coming not form the chat history backup, but from the other BBM user's device, since BBM is synced between users.

Does that help?

Re: bbm chat history

yes that makes sense but what i did once i had restored the contacts i deleted every contact and chose to ignore future invitiations would that of cleared any of the chat history to? (by the way i deleted them again as i was selling the phone so didnt want them adding that old pin)

basically step by step -

i did a security wipe

updated the os to 7.1 through desktop manager

i restored the bbm contacts then individually deleted each one and chose the ignore feature so they couldnt add that pin back.

so basically thinking because i did that security wipe and upgrade to new os which may i add i didnt back up any data through desktop manager i chose the clean install so didnt restore ANY data other than my bbm contacts from my back up on my memory card. That the chat history will be gone even though i have restored contacts and then deleted them again the chats shouldnt be there anymore should they?

im so sorry if im confusing you thanks for all your help so far

Correct, the chat history won't there anymore, UNLESS, like I said above, you had saved the chat history to the Media Card, and you didn't wipe the media card.

Only you know that.

That is normal.

No, that registration message means your mobile network "sees" the device on the network, and is telling you that it has been registered on the network.

Re: bbm chat history

sorry i dont know how to quote but to your reply stating -

Only you know that.

i only saved the contacts as a back up to my media card i didnt even know you could save the chat history to it so that would definately of been on the device
