bbm not working :(

Hey!

Well since friday, my bbm and other blackberry services have only been working if im connected to wifi, and not out and about.

I took my phone into the 3 shop and the guy looked at it and did various checks etc but had no idea what was wrong. He suggested I check that I have the latest software etc so I did that but nothing has changed. PLEASE HELP ME Smiley Sad

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

Wow...he really fobbed you off, didn't he? You see, you PAY THEM for 100% of your services as well as 100% of your service-related formal support, and they are not delivering any of that to you...you should be quite upset with them about that. And he really should not have let you walk out of the store in that condition...very poor service indeed.

Not knowing what he actually did, it's rather difficult to avoid giving you redundant advice. Nevertheless, I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):

1) Register HRT

  • KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
  • Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive to your Messages app

2) Delete and Resend Service Books

  • KB05000Delete the service book for the BlackBerry Internet Service email account from the BlackBerry smartphone
  • If you have no CMIME entry, then skip the deletion
  • KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
  • Please wait for "Activation" Messages, one per already configured email account, to arrive in your Messages. If you have no already configured email accounts, please wait 1 hour.

3) Batt Pull Reboot

  • Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you need to get back in touch with them and insist that they deliver the services for which you PAY THEM.

Good luck!

Re: I did exactly what you said but it still would not work :...

Hello again,

Unfortunately, "still would not work" does not give me much to go on. Rather, the specific results of each and every step within that HRT/Service Books/Reboot process would help much better to understand what may be going on.

Further, since you are talking to both 3 and Carphone Warehouse, I'd actually recommend you continue to do so...diagnostics with the device in hand are infinitely more useful than at an internet-distance. Further, they (both) are your actual formal support channel...nothing here on this forum has anything whatsoever to do with any amount of formal support for your issues.

Good luck!
