bbm registration?!

im not exactly sure how to use bbm.... when i set it up it said i needed to register to the messengerservice, howevver every time i try it says, "bbm failed to register to the messenger service. registration is neccisary to use the features of this application. please ensure your time is correctly set, open the My Priofile screen and check the Blackberry Messenger registration status"

 

what does this mean? is this important?

 

also my friend tried to add me but it didnt work... but i added her jsut fine?

First let's try registering your device on the network.

 

Click on your Options icon on the home screen.  Then go to Device>Advanced System Settings>Host Routing Table.  Press the BB menu button and select Register Now.

How did you add her when you're not registered?

 

Do you have a BlackBerry Data Plan enabled on your account with your carrier or mobile provider?

You must, in order to get the RIM push email functions you are looking for, as well as addtional BlackBerry data services such as the internet browser, Facebook for BlackBerry, BlackBerry Messenger, and much more.
So, call your carrier and inquire about having the BlackBerry Data Plan added to your account.
