benefits of using Desktop Software?

HI

My organisation has recently implemented BES.

Currently, Blackberry Sofware is not a recommended app.

Besides backup and restore, what are other advantages of the BB Desktop Software?

Where can I find out EXACTLY what can be backed up and restored?

The desktop software can be used to load apps, an operating system to the BlackBerry and sync media to and from your BlackBerry, as well as the backup and restore of data to the device.

Basically, the backup will backup everything in the the device memory of your BlackBerry, everything but those media files you have on the removable media card.

Here is a list of databases on the device which I know are backed up.

Article ID: KB03974 List of all databases on the BlackBerry smartphone

In addition, you can backup media which is located ON the device memory (not that on the media card, which can be synced separately).

If you'll be on a BES, read this also.

Article ID: KB11101 The BlackBerry device databases that are not wirelessly backed up by the BlackBerry Enterprise Server
