blackberry messenger over wifi

Hi I just got a Torch and when I am travelling out of the country I keep my data services off in roaming, I am able to use the browser to browse the net over wifi connection wherever possible but the blackberry messenger and email dont work over the wifi, this was not the case with the Bold I was using before this, I could use the bbm and download all emails and browse the internet over wifi connection with data service roaming off.  Any solutions?

Re: blackberry messenger over wifi

yes both need to be ticked off to get BBM.

I went out of country and had to do the same.

Re: blackberry messenger over wifi

Hi,

Just to confirm. So if we need to browse the net on wifi while abroad.

Best thing to do is :

1. Switch off data

2. Switch off mobile network

3. Switch on wifi

Thanks

Re: blackberry messenger over wifi

No, in order to use the browser and get BBMessenger, ONLY via WiFi and not your mobile or roaming connection, you must turn OFF the mobile network and leave ON Data Services.

If you turn off Data Services, you will not get BBMessenger or email on WiFi, so leave it on.

Re: blackberry messenger over wifi

[ Edited ]

Is this a viable optoin for receiving e-mail without charges? Wifi is always on...

While not in a wifi area:

- Data Off While Roaming

- Network On in case of emergency call from home

While in a wifi area:

- Data On While Roaming

- Network On or Off? Does the network have to be off to ensure the data goes over wifi?

I just tested this at home. I turned off the network and left data on. I can send and receive bbm and e-mail.

Re: blackberry messenger over wifi

Network off, so that only WiFi data is used.
