bold 9900 so many issues!

Got this handset in october 2012. In the last 6 months it has shown me errors in connecting to the internet, communication error, does not recognize server errors and as of this week when I go into any application, even text messages, I get a 'cannot verify the security of this page' warning with options to continue stop or cancel. However the most annoying thing - apart from the freezing screen or turning itself off - is that for some unknown reason the zero key keeps appearing randomly when I type even when I'm not using keys anywhere near it! If I wasn't editing this post as I type this is how it looks - I'm 0writing 0and t0h0e z000ero key appears0. I don't even have to press the key, I barely graze the button and '0' appears. My 0contract is for 24 months and I really want to get out of it because this handset is not worth the money I've been paying for the last year. Anyone else having weird te0chnical issues like this?

Edit; the 'alt' button is now acting up!00000

Re: bold 9900 so many issues!

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

What you describe could be caused by water damage...if there is any possibility of that, then...

REMOVE YOUR BB BATTERY NOW!!!

Run, don't walk, to this FAQ:

Do everything it says, including waiting the maximum recommended time (perhaps longer...perhaps 5 days). Applying power to your BB between it getting wet and doing this process reduces the chances of success. Further, the only thing predictable about moisture intrusion into a BB (indeed, any electronic device) is that the results will be unpredictable. I've seen some come back up right away and be fine. I've seen others never work at all. I've seen still others run for a bit, and then die later. And every thing in between.

Otherwise, I recommend that you attempt to boot into Safe Mode:

  • KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Mode

It may take you multiple attempts to get the ESC key sequence (press/release/hold) correct, so be patient. When successfully into Safe Mode, see what happens.

If the behavior ceases, then think carefully...what happened just before this behavior started? A new app? An update? A Theme? Something else? Think carefully as the smallest change could be causal...and attempt to undo whatever that was.

But if the behavior continues in Safe Mode, then you may need to consider more drastic actions -- WIPE, OS Reload, BBSAK Wipe/Reload, and the "Bare Bones" OS Reload Process. To prepare, you should be sure that you have a full backup to your PC...please review the Backup link in my auto-sig on this post for instructions.

You may also need the use of these tricks:

Then again, you could simply have a defective unit...not impossible in our world, after all. If so, you should seek (should have sought long ago...) formal warranty support, the terms of which are dictated by your original purchase contract.

Good luck and let us know!

Re: bold 9900 so many issues!

Thanks for the advice, I haven't had any water 0damage with the phone, unless readin0g0 a text in the rain counts?! And I have no idea of any download that could have interferred with the phone. I don't download anything, my software is up to date but that's the only thing I've really done. I have my contract still so ill take it the shop I bought it from on monday and see if they can do the solutions you have suggested, because if I try it I might wreck the phone completely!

It most definitely could count.

It's entirely possible, even without downloading anything new, that something simply became corrupt, causing issues. It's also possible that an update caused corruption in the OS...if the problems appeared right after that update, then that would be a very good indicator to a likely cause.

Nevertheless, the tests I gave you are intended to try and diagnose the situation; depending on assumptions provides nothing conclusive.

Good luck! I would definitely advise that you proceed with conducting a full and complete backup for yourself...it would not be the first time that a tech was handed a device and proceeded to wipe it clean without first taking a backup. Data protection is a personal matter...not something left to anyone but the person who considers the data to be important.

Good luck!
