bold will not restart and chooses to be dead for a while after soft resets.

Hi guys

i've been on bold for 2 months now. today the phone died after i performed a soft reset on it again. 1st time it happened, i let it rest over night and in the morning i was able to power it up again. I'm just hoping the same thing will happen this time round.

prior to this i tried to tether through my bold but since my GPRS/3G signal was in lower caps,  i was told to perform a soft reset by the technical rep.

the thing is. i'm not asking for solutions because there are many different methods to go around this - many requiring a min 2-3 hour wait/going cold turkey and not trying to start the phone. rather, why does bold suffer from this issue? any news of RIM addressing this issue in any software updates in the future?

it's a great phone, but if this happens during a working peak period, it'd drive me nuts knowing i'm 8 hours away from having a chance to see if my phone is still usable.

All Bolds do not suffer from what you describe. I've had one for over a year--nothing like that has happened.

I know you are not asking for solutions... (although I think you should be) but for grins and giggles:

1. What is your OS release you are on?

Look at Options > About, third line down beginning with a "v.4.xxx"

2. What do you consider a "soft reset"? How do you perform that?

Hi,

It seems to be. Is the unit detected by the PC? Can you try reloading the OS? If now just call the carrier and exchange the unit before the warranty expires.

Peace,

Re: bold will not restart and chooses to be dead for a while after soft resets.

hi, i've been following this forum since before i got my bbb for tips and advices, very helpful Smiley Happy

first of all, as expected, my bbb went down at 9pm last night and now at 8am, it's back and running. and definitely out of frustration i generalised bolds having this short coming Smiley Tongue but we cannot deny that there's a numver of people with same issue on a few forums.

im on v4.6.0.282 (platform 4.0.0.235)

ok my version of soft reset was holding the power button, and removing the batter for 5-10seconds and placing the battery back in.

thanks for your reply.

Stop there.

That is simple a power off and battery pull, it does very very little in the way of fixing OS problems of java exceptions.

Do it this way:  With the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery a few seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot.

That is the recommended thing to do for 95% of any gliches that you see on the BlackBerry. You will lose no data or information.

You should do this every few days... a couple times a week.
