Hi and welcome to the forums,
The easiest way to wipe the Device is to go to OPTIONS SECURITY- CLICK TO ENTER- MENU KEY WIPE HANDHELD.
Make sure you have a good backup beforehand.

Thanks for the information on how to wipe it using the device...but, as the question states, and the title of this thread states, how does one go about wiping the data on the handheld using the desktop manager?
The two checkboxes where one should be able to check that indicates the data should be erased are disabled. How does one go about getting those checkboxes enabled so the data can be deleted?
