Does anyone know how to get my device to create back-ups with a .ipd ext instead of a .bbb ext? I know .bbb is what is created when backing up on a Mac, but I'm using Windows to back-up. It doesn't seem like there is a setting in Desktop Manager to make this change so wonder if it's buried somewhere in the device settings? Thanks!

There is no setting in the device to change the backup file extention - the windows version of Blackberry Desktop Manager would back up to *.ipd extension.

Thanks, any tips on how to change the windows version of the BlackBerry Desktop Manager to *.ipd? Currently, my windows version is creating back-ups with .bbb extension. Note, I did put music onto my device using my home Mac using BB Desktop Manager, but it is so strange that the windows version of the BB Destop Manager is creating .bbb back-up files. Appreciate your expertise!

BB DM v5 and v6 creates backup with .ipd ext by default while v7 creates with .bbb and can restore .ipd ext as well.
Knowing this u can use the respective versions of BB DM accordingly.
This should help i think.

Its funny how the OP asks a question and gets an answer for a different question!
You must have Blackberry Desktop Software 7 which automatically creates .bbb file. This will work as Blackberry has changed to .bbb now and you wont have an option to change to .ipd
Also people fail to mention Blackberry Extractor is not free and will only bring the first five entries of each database unless you pay for a key.
