cleaning up a phone

[ Edited ]

how does one rewrite the phone's memory. I'm looking to make about 7 passes and ensure there is no data left on it.

I understand fire is another solution but lets be kind to the neighbors and not heat up the phone that much

Re: cleaning up a phone

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

The native methods available are these:

  • KB16307 Actions performed by the BlackBerry smartphone during the removal of stored user and application data
  • KB14058 How to delete all data and applications from the BlackBerry smartphone using the Security Wipe option
  • KB31291 How to reset a BlackBerry smartphone to factory settings using BlackBerry Desktop Software

Non-native, there are 3rd party utilities:

  • www.bbsak.org -- this has a wipe that will truly leave the device blank (but for IT Policy...ResetToFactory is the only method to remove that)...it will not even have an OS on it
  • JL_CMDER -- I don't have any valid links for it, but I seem to recall that it had some wipe capabilities similar to what BBSAK can do

This all, however, begs a question...why? If the intent is to transfer the device to another person, then there is more than mere wiping required...refer:

  • KB05099 Steps to take before selling or after buying a previously owned BlackBerry smartphone

Good luck!
