desktop s/w

just upgraded from Pearl to Torch, have run 4.2 desktop for years.  new v.6 doesn't seem to install on top of it.  i tried another PC with no RIM on it & v.6 installed fine.  i tried uninstalling 4.2 from the other machine...it requires the original CD.  you gotta be kidding me.  someone have an easy workaround or a link to upgrade from 4.2 to 6?  the RIM site is as painful to navigate as ever
