Re: exporting contacts

Hint -- that's why I tend to use the "Quote" function when I reply...so that everyone can know exactly to what I am replying, especially if several people are all posting at the same time...the result is posts in date/time order, with no tie-back (unless you "Quote") to what the post is in reply to.

Good luck!

Not the right desktop manager. That's the problem there.

I don't understand all this back and forth about the version of Desktop Manager.

1. The link I posted above specifically states to use v6.

2. There are a couple of options for extracting and viewing data from a the backup files.

  1. The IPD Parse macro is designed to read a Blackberry IPD file and create reports in MSWord or MSExcel. It is free, and you can find out more here: https://sites.google.com/site/ipdparse/home
  2. Another options is MagicBerry from MenaStep... which extract from a backup IPD or BBB file, split IPD files, etc. http://menastep.com/pages/magicberry.php
  3. Another IPD and BBB file utility is BlackBerry Backup Extractor, and is available for PC and Mac, and can be found here: http://www.blackberryconverter.com/ There is a free and paid version.

Re: exporting contacts

I ran into this problem trying to migrate my wife off of BB to Android. It's infuriating that RIM would remove functionality from one version to another, but you can still get the old versions.

This has come up here http://www.blackberryforums.com/rim-software/253387-archived-rim-desktop-software.html

v6 and v5 are available. This will let you get the contacts out in CSV format. I don't think you will be able to have 2 concurrently installed though so you will likely have to uninstall v7 to roll back or pull them off on a different computer.

Alternatively, if you have a third party email provider like Gmail, you can run "Google Sync" and sync your address book and then export CSV from there. This won't give you as much control though and none of the sync programs I've used have been perfect.
