how to stop data charges on curve 8900 on 02

Having just become a blackberry user and starting downloading apps i was under the impression i was on a unlimited data plan until i had a charge of £10 for one connection on my o2 bill. After a call to o2 they tell me i have unlimited data through the blackberry network but i have made a connection through o2 wap hence the charge as it is outside of my data tariff. I thought all data was free,but obviously mistaken!!  Can anybody tell me how i know when an app is connecting through the blackberry.net or via another method ???   thanks  derek

Well, it is hard to tell. Different apps connect different ways. Many applications, in their options, may give you a choice of the connection, so check that first off.

How do I check each app to see what they use?

I think the only thing that uses WAP for a connection is dialling in to O2 themselves for account details!!
