"Normal" is a challenging statistic to define...one persons "normal" will be different from another. But, in general with electronic devices such as these, more usage will consume more resources, and that process has a byproduct -- heat. Heavier usage, more heat. Lighter usage, less heat. The mix of things you are using will consume a different mix of resources (batter power, carrier network signal, display, LED and other lights, CPU, Memory, etc.) that the mix of things someone else uses. Hence, what you need to find is what is "normal for you"...and then worry only when things start to operate outside of that "normal for you" range.
