its possible....

It Is possible..however to connect via wifi without a active plan..I came here expecting to get the instructions on what settings to be changed.
Here's what happened...
I live trinidad and bought this from a gf of mine...normally our local carriers offer plans but this is a phone from verizon (which is not in trinidad) because that's what shows when the phone is starting up; but this 1 was unlocked so it could operate on our local carriers. I activated it and it worked but after the plan expired..I was still able to message over the wifi because of the wifi on work...I was shocked...I never paid 4 data again! Lol...when ever I went onto wifi...the messages came thru..I was cool wit that...*I didn't need to be connected all the time*
It was one day a padna of mine wanted a call...his battery was dead an I didn't have money on my line (prepaid). He persisted that I take out my sim for him to get this call...after 10 mins of fkkn naggin..I gave in....he made his call...but I got the test stating that his sim was registered to my phone because he had an active plan on his berry...remember, I didn't have any plan on mine...when I re-inserted my sim..the bbm thru bbm no longer function....you kno I was fkkn **bleep** rite...smh...so now I'm here after months of tryin to find a helpful resource...that why I say..it has to be some setting...an I did flash/default the phone...no prevail there either....so yes...it is possible

Re: its possible....

You simply were finally "caught". BB proprietary services are not free...you must subscribe to a data plan to have them. In your case, your subscription expired, but your carrier was simply very slow to cut you off. Swapping the SIM back and forth caused your device to re-register with your network, at which time they "caught you", and have cut you off. You were lucky to have it as long as you did, but you no longer can have it until you subscribe again.

Good luck!
