media sync

my computer has recognised my device but when opened it does not show its content and is not recognised for media sync. how do i fix this problem?

despite your help, on my phone when clicking the menu button on going to storage after plugging in the cable, there is no mass storage mode option but rather an 'enable media sync' option which does not allow me to do much.
