@chrisbelly, the answer is to leave it in rice on top of a warm surface, as was suggested by Bifocals a few posts back. Popping the battery back in within a few hours is not an option. Sure, none of us wants to be away from our phone for too long, but the instructions given will possibly get your phone back to life whereas what you've done will not.

My blackberry 8900 curve fell into my toilet around mid-day yesterday, immediately i got it out and took out the battery. I wiped the battery and the everywhere else on the phone. I took out the sim card and memory card and tapped the phone so that any other water stuck would come out. Then stupid me, i put the battery back in, it started loading and then showed me a sign with a battery and a red warning next to it. Both my water damage labels on my phone and battery were red at this time. I then put the battery and the rest of the phone without the back cover in some rice. After 15minutes and being inpatient, i took it out and tried the battery again. This time i could see the water it showed a white screen and i could see the water in the screen. It flickered a bit and then went off. So i decided not to put the battery in anymore, after reading several forums. I placed both phone and battery on the heater for about 4hours, then i used a cool blow drier for about 20mins. After this i put it in rice for another 6hours. Just after midnight, i took it out of the rice and put my battery in, and every thing works fine.

tlab was lucky; there aren't many success stories when it comes to rescuing a phone dropped in water.
The important thing behind any success is PATIENCE. If the phone is going to make a remarkable recovery, it's not going to do so within hours. Dry heat, rice, removing the battery as well as any other suggestions need time to work. Anyone who can exercise patience and be without their BlackBerry for a few days will have a better chance of coming out a winner than those who rush the process.
