problems after os upgrade

I am experiencing problems with my torch 9850 after os upgrade to 7.1.
My phone is a Verizon branded torch 9850 and I am currently using it in Ghana with MTN as my service provider. Prior to the upgrade, the only issue I had was with the map which I seldom use because I use nokia maps on my N8 which works perfectly for me.

Now after the upgrade, when I make or receive calls, sometimes I cannot hear anything even though the call would have connected and I am told the calls parties also don't hear me when that happens. The only way I am able to resolve that is to take out the battery and reinsert after which when I power on, I am able to make normal phonecalls for sometimes and then the same thing willchappen again.

I am wondering if anyone has experienced this and how it was resolved.
This is my first blackberry and I like the phone but I am getting frustrated with this.
Could this be a software bug, an issue with my service provider or my handset?

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Re: problems after os upgrade

To troubleshoot this, can you downgrade the device software to the previous version?

(using desktop manager)

Try going to your Manage Connections screen and turning OFF your connection to your Verizon mobile network. Wait a minute and turn it back on.

Try Also, once you have lost the ability to hear a phone call... to play a song from your media player. Does it play over either the internal or external speaker?

Re: problems after os upgrade

Thanks. I am able to play music from both the internal and external speakers when that happens. I can even hear sounds like key presses and network notification sounds and alerts. I have tried turning of my mobile network for sometime and then tuurning it back on but that. Does not resolve it.
Thanks for your help

Re: problems after os upgrade

OK.

This was not a problem at all, ever, with OS7 installed?

Re: problems after os upgrade

Before you downgrade (because along with Wolfie, I'd recommend that too), let me ask you to do one thing.

Call Verizon Tech Support and report this issue. Tell them exactly what you've explained here... Works ok on OS7, not on OS7.1, will work after a battery pull reboot.

If they can resolve it please report the solution back here.

If they cannot resolve it, request that they ESCALATE THE ISSUE to RIM level tech support. This is important so that the bug gets logged with RIM.

Re: problems after os upgrade

Thanks. Unfortunately for me, it is a Verizon branded phone but I am currently using it on MTN in Ghana. Do I have to call verizon or MTN on this?

Re: problems after os upgrade

MTN.

However, they do not support the 9850 model, so you might not get anywhere, but you can try.
