Re: problems with sotware update / Torch9860

Hello,

Left to it's "automatic" functions, the Desktop Software will depend on what your specific carrier supports as far as providing updates. But, you can force it to do whatever you wish. The simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):

1) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages

2) Make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed

3) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:

4) If that OS package is from a carrier other than the carrier for which your BB was originally manufactured, then delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
  • C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML

5) Launch the Desktop Software and connect your BB...the software should offer you the OS package you installed to your PC. If, during the process, your BB presents a "507" error, simply unplug the USB cord from the BB and re-insert it...don't do anything else...this should allow the install to continue.

Don't forget to backup.

If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:

  • KB19915How to perform a clean reload of BlackBerry smartphone application software using BlackBerry Desktop Software

Good luck and let us know!

Wireless Music Sync 1.1.0.5 (aktualisieren) could be deleted, but Desktop-software 7.1.0.37 is not able to update Blackberry 7.0.0 Kernanwendung (Downgrade) not, it is red marked on the left side of BB DS

Re: problems with sotware update / Torch9860

I'm sorry, but I am not able to understand that...please help me to understand you by providing more details. It would indeed be most helpful if you could follow the instructions I provided, and provide information back that correlates to a specific place in those instructions. As posted, I'm totally lost as to what exactly you are attempting, how exactly you are attempting it, and what exactly is happening when you attempt it...

Re: problems with sotware update / Torch9860

So, you've not done anything that I put into Post 2 for you? With that method, you can take control over exactly what OS package is installed to your BB. Which is what I thought you were trying to do...but I am less sure of that now, but still not quite understanding exactly what you are attempting.

Lacking that (e.g., skipping steps 3 and 4 in what I provided), you leave it to the automated methods for the Desktop Software to take control. And those depend on what your carrier pushes out as far as OS levels and updates.

So, my guess is that you've ignored those steps and instead are allowing the Desktop Software to do it's automatic thing. And that there is some update that needs to install, but "not possible to install" is somewhere showing...but I've never seen that message before, so I don't quite understand what would generate that.

Sometimes, the automated methods of the Desktop Software get stuck. I recall in the Storm series being forever prompted for an update, applying the update, and then again being prompted for it...it was somehow stuck.

Your 9860 is on OS 7.0.0...I strongly recommend that you consider taking it up to 7.1...that has proven to be much more reliable, has enhanced features, and the very latest version (7.1.0.825 available from Vodafone DE) even is reported to greatly improve battery performance. The method I gave you above can allow you to update to this, and maybe it'll also relieve the "stuck" situation you seem to presently be in.

Again...I'm making a lot of guesses and assumptions here...you've not been very clear in what you provide, but I'm trying to understand and provide you with useful guidance.

Good luck!

Re: problems with sotware update / Torch9860

I did all as you said
automatic function disabled on BB DS, removed OS packages over windows BB DS:
but: it is not possible over the German BB DS to remov'e:
7.0.0 Systemsoftware and 7.0.0 Kernel (there is no action buttom) and marked as 'necessarry"

How or where can I find the 7.1... version to upgrade there is no tip on the BB DS

Given what I think you are saying, no...if you indeed performed all of those steps correctly, then you would not be able to proceed into the Desktop Software and see the screens you are describing. Further...

But that is only step 1 of what I gave you...there remains steps 3 and 4, which would install to your PC the OS package you desire to install to your BB.

You cannot use the Desktop Software to remove the OS itself...you can install/remove components, but not the core OS. All you can do, via the process I gave you, is to replace the OS that is on the BB now with whatever package you download and install to your PC. But, again, if you'd done what I described, you'd never even get to the screens you are describing...right when you launch the Desktop Software and attach your BB, it will pop up an offer to install that OS to your BB...you never will get the chance to get into AppLoader.

The only time you might get the chance to get into AppLoader is if:

  1. You've not installed any BB OS package to your PC (which forces the Desktop Software into it's "automatic" mode)
  2. You've not deleted both VENDOR.XML files from your PC (which causes the Desktop Software to ignore the OS package, and revert to "automatic" mode)
  3. You've installed the exact OS package to your PC that your BB is already running (which causes the Desktop Software to see nothing different, and therefore not offer an update)

Via the Download Portal, linked in step 3 of my first reply to you above...

(Via Google Translate) Ich wünschte, ich sprach Deutsch. Zu viel ist in der Übersetzung verloren. (I wishIspokeGerman. Toomuchisbeinglostintranslation.)

Good luck and let us know!

Re: problems with sotware update / Torch9860

OS package is not from a carrier
BB was originally manufactured with OS package from RIM

Re: problems with sotware update / Torch9860

Then you have a very unique situation. The carriers 100% control the release of the OS. BlackBerry releases no OS's direct to anyone but the carriers, who in turn release them to their users.

But it really should not matter...all OS packages start with BlackBerry, then are certified and "wrapped" by the carriers (the VENDOR.XML thing) for release to their users. But, given the process I gave you, you should be able to use any OS package from any carrier.
