pushregistry notification

Hi this is my first post so please forgive me if I have not correctly identified my need and I will clarify where possible.

I have two requirements for a product that I'm having difficulty achieving.

  1. Restarting the application when an application specific SMS is received on the port specified. We are able to receive and parse the SMS provided our service is running, but we are trying to introduce fault tolerance in the event the service closed unexpectedly.
     - Specifically we would like to know if there is an equivalent of SMS push via PushRegistry mechanism as defined for Midlets
  2. Restarting the application via a system timer.  We would like to set a system timer that triggers at an interval (say every 15m) and should the background service not be running it is opened similar to the pushregistry method discussed in 1a. Any API that would facility a recurring action to restart a service would be very helpful.

Thanks for any insight that can be provided,

Graham
