"frozen" download of dictionary from app world

I am trying to down load a trial version of the Oxford American Dictionary. I had some problems getting it and now all I have in 'my world' is the the program saying starting download with no movement of the status bar. It has been like this for about 45 minutes now. There is no change in the free memory (staying at 106 MB free). When I highlight it and press the menu key, I only get the options to 'show memory bar', 'log in', 'switch applications', and 'close'. Any ideas what to do with this download. I can't delete it and it doesn't seem to be going anywhere?

Thanks

Keith

Re: "frozen" download of dictionary from app world

HI there!

There have been some issues with the AppWorld services lately...most (but not all) are reported to be cleared up. Please try again. Also, please try removing and re-installing AppWorld...some have reported that to be helpful. In addition...RIM has released AppWorld version 1.1.0.15...it is highly recommended to be on that version.

Also please try a hard reset: With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

In addition, you can try this sequence (some have had success...not all):

1) Remove AppWorld from your BB (Homescreen > Options > Advanced Options > Applications) -- if it requests that you reboot the BB, do so.

2) Do a Batt-Pull reboot as described above.

3) Get a new link and install a fresh copy of AppWorld

  • Again, if it requests to reboot, do so.

4) Do another Batt-Pull reboot

5) See if it now works.

Hopefully that will get it going...otherwise, you will be one of the multitude that RIM is aware of that has this problem...and they continue to research for a remedy (so we are told).

Cheers!

Re: "frozen" download of dictionary from app world

Unfortunately, nothing has worked to clear up my mess with this frozen application. I sent a request to the vender to see if they had any suggestions. I am waiting to hear from them. I will also get in touch with my rep at Verizon to see if they have any suggestions. Thanks for your help.

As an update, I got a reply from the vender with a link to download the program. That worked. I now have the program but I still have a frozen icon in 'myworld'. I can live with that.
