reprogram a sim ?

Is it possible to reprogram a sim card with a new phone number? I bought a used 8310 with a sim in it and put mine in it instead. Mine is not a 3g so I loose most features.

I don't know if it is possible, but I know the 8310 is not 3G capable so that part wouldn't matter.

Re: reprogram a sim ?

Re-provisioning a SIM card is not impossible to perform but it depends on carriers policy on SIM card provisioning.

For having BlackBerry service and features you need to have BlackBerry Plan in your SIM card enabled by operators which doesn't require to have (must) 3G capability. Contact with your carrier for having BlackBerry Plan (might required additional data plan depending on carrier).

Re: reprogram a sim ?

SIM's are not programmed with Mobile Numbers.

The Mobile number is linked with the SIM's sim (ID or Serial) number, the long number you see when you goto:

Settings | Advanced Options | Sim Card - Labelled as ID.

The above and the Provisioning that Tanzim has mentioned is Software and Database driven by the carrier.

The fact that the device came with a sim is odd, especially if it is still active. Means someone is paying for the services that it is provisioned for. If it is still active, then I would not bank on it being active much longer.

Best to Provision your own sim, as Tanzim has discussed.
