I used Wavepad, it has an editor in it and made my ringtones for .wav files and mp3's.
They have a free trial, and I had plenty of time to make my tones before it expired.
I don't remember the link, but you can Google it. There are also some websites that allow you to do them
as well. I'll do some searched her on the forum, and see if I can find them.
Set this post to email you (bottom of reply) and I'll put them up for you.
"you can get the same for free with audacity :
get your mp3, and cut it to match your needs. Then save it, and upload it on your Blackberry. "

It allows you to create custom ringtones from any mp3 files. I thought I'd give it a shot.
I went to www.phonezoo.com . It is totally free.
There are a LOT of free ringtones, but you can also load any song from your computer, it gives the option of editing any portion of a song, up to 30 seconds (which is about all the phone will play for a 'ringtone' anyway, starting and stopping wherever you want.
That should get you started!
If you need more info please ask!
If not please place the resolve check in the post that answered your question!
