setting up email on bold 9780

I purchased a new bold 9780 a few months ago and (finally!) got round to contacting my network to update my 'tarriff' so that I could access everything on my blackberry. I have been trying to set up my email on it all afternoon to no avail. I followed the setup email accounts and added my email address, where it says this is now up and running but when I go to send (or retrieve) and email it says "No message services configured. You will be sent to the set up wizard", but once there is shows as set up!! I have looked through other forums, where it says to go through OPTIONS to HOST RUNNING TABLE to RESISTER which I have done and received a message saying Blackberry is registered, yet this still doesnt change the email message!  This is so frustrating and probably a really simple answer! Ive had Balckberrys before and its never been this hard to set up!

Re: setting up email on bold 9780

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

With a strong carrier network signal (e.g., not merely WiFi), I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):

1) Register HRT

  • KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
  • Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive to your Messages app

2) Delete and Resend Service Books

  • KB05000Delete the service book for the BlackBerry Internet Service email account from the BlackBerry smartphone
  • If you have no CMIME entry, then skip the deletion
  • KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
  • Please wait for "Activation" Messages, one per already configured email account, to arrive in your Messages. If you have no already configured email accounts, please wait 1 hour.

3) Reboot

  • With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes.
  • See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should try deleting and re-adding your configurations for the affected email accounts. Otherwise, you should contact your mobile service provider for formal support.

Good luck!

Re: setting up email on bold 9780

thanks for that, i had already done step 1 anyway, but I am unable to complete step 2 (and 3) as I dont have the service book to delete!!! I have tried registering on blackberry website, which it says is done and that ill get an email icon (which is already there!)  but nothing has changed! Ill try taking off the battery, and see if that reboots it otherwise ill have to contact my network provider (again!)

Re: setting up email on bold 9780

The steps remain the same...of course, they are indeed steps, to be conducted in order...so skipping past step 2, just because of failing on one portion of step 2, doesn't lead one to believe that doing then step 3 would be of any value. And, of course, there is the end statement...if all else fails, formal support is needed, and there is only one way to obtain that.

Good luck!

Re: setting up email on bold 9790

I didnt skip step 2 - I simply couldnt perform it as there wasnt the 'book' there to delete therfore I could not move onto step 3!!

I have contacted my internet provider, who, after running though all the same steps I had, eventually had to wipe the phone and start from manufactuers settings (even though they could 'see' at their end that the email was set up, just wasnt coming through on my phone). Anyway, its been reset and it still doesnt work!! We'll be running through all these steps again when they call back this afternoon to see if it worked!
