Use this link to uninstall the current DM
Download DM 4.5, extremely compatible with XP, DO NOT load Media manager:
Follow the instructions on USB installation on this post by Zandrex,
After the USB install, install this Microsoft BB driver
Check the following as well:
You may experience connectivity issues with the Universal Serial Bus (USB) ports if you quickly switch a USB device attached to a Universal Host Controller Interface (UHCI) USB host controller. If you unplug one USB device and plug in another USB device within five seconds, the host controller stops functioning.
For information regarding this issue, search the Microsoft Support Knowledge Base for article 816843.
Complete the following for external hubs connecting the BlackBerry device to the root hub.
Install the DM 4.5
Try to connect, Let us know.

That's why I was trying the cable test with windows.
Can you get another from your local carrier?
