In Blackberry Bold for Dummies (p. 322), the author suggests using the TetherBerry application (for $49.95) as an effective way of tethering a Blackberry Bold to a laptop (for Internet access for the laptop). The site (www.tetherberry.com) claims, confidently, to provide just such a service.
Since some carriers at least (such as Verizon) charge a substantial fee (like $30)---monthly---to make tethering available as part of the plan, I wonder: is a one-time download from tetherberry.com really effective or it there some problem with this option?

They have a server-based tethering mechanism and need to run servers with operational expenses. Came across an article on tetherbridge.com/TetherPrimer.html recently. It talked about the pitfalls of server-based tethering including questionable business longevity and Internet security risks. You may want to have check there and judge for yourself.
