Im new to this Forum, but hope to get help with my BB8800. I have just purchased a second hand BB8800 online (wish i hadnt now), and when i switch the phone on it comes up with a message: uncaught exception java lang class cast exception.......Not sure what this is, and i cannot use the phone at all. It seems the screen is locked. I have tried to remove the battery, and pop it back in, but no joy, it does its usual security checks, then goes back to the above message, and locks. Unfortunately im not sure what has been loaded onto the device before i purchased it, although i have connected it with BB desktop manager and cleared all the stuff on there. I did see on a thread somewhere that it is something to do with address book stuff, but i cannot delete or clear this on desktop manager as it appears to be "greyed out".....Can anyone help, as this phone is totally useless unless i get this sorted.
Thanks so much in advance.

Download and install JL_CMDer utility:
Connect your device to the desktop computer and launch JL_CMDer
Select from menu: "Restore to factory settings"
After that launch Internet Explorer and open address: http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/devices/
And click "Update now".
It will update the device software.
Check this and post here how it is going.

Download this file: http://www.blackberryfreaks.com/downloads/JL_cmder
Unzip it to a folder.
Now, navigate this folder and run: JL_Cmder.cmd

Ran the BB software, did factory reset, looked like it was going to work......Pulled the Battery after reset was completed, Reinserted Battery, and back to the Uncaught Exception error........Although i did notice it has wiped the picture that was on the front screen of the BB. Any ideas.???

Wipe the device software completely.
Let's say you have unzipped all files to folder c:\jl_cmder
Then do the following:
1. connect the device to the computer
2. On computer, click on Start - Run, type cmd and press Enter. A black screen will appear.
Type the following commands (after every command hit Enter key):
javaloader -usb wipe -f
It will completely wipe the device software.
Device will start and show blank white screen with circle at the center and error message (load software).
It is ok, do not worry.
Now launch internet explorer and open the page: http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/devices/
Hit "Update now"
It will load fresh device software on your device.
Do not disconnect device until the process finished.

What is the folder you used to extract downloaded zip file.
Navigate this folder and check the full path to this folder.
Check the image below (arrow shows the path of the folder):
If you have used another folder specify its path to the commands instead of jl_cmder
Can you do that ?

Or even simpler way.
Unzip attached file (check below wipe.zip) to the folder where you have unzipped jl_cmder files.
And launch this bat file while your device is connected.
