Hello and thank for your reply. Unfortunately the phone was brand new when i got it and i think i use the 10 attempts myself by accident cause i thought i was doing something else At the moment i am trying to resolve the issue with my network provider but they arent very helpfull. U said the last resort is asking RIM. whas that exactly? (sorry i am clueless).

RIM is the manufacturer that makes BBs. You don't normally seek any support direct from them...rather, you go through your service provider as that's the support model you signed up for...they can escalate into RIM for free (to you), but you cannot get to RIM directly without paying (since you'd be bypassing the support model to which you agreed).
Seeking support direct from RIM for this is what results in that high cost I mentioned...I don't know 100%, but that's what I've heard. If you want to investigate it, you do so via Incident Support:
But, to even start an Incident Support action with RIM costs you money...again, that's because you would be bypassing the support contract to which you agreed.
Good luck and let us know!

Ok maybe i will give it a go. What u would do if u were in my position though? I read about the trade in here as well. Do u reckon it might be a less expensive solution to my problem with quicker results? i just need a bit of guidelines really as i am quite new with blackberry. By the way, thank you very much, you been really helpfull so far!

Try this for resetting the MEP counter, 1. First of all you need to have a desktop manager, if not installed then Install it, it is a free download from a Blackberry website. 2. After installing the desktop manager connect handset with computer. 3. Now open this software its explains booting rom and ask you for phone unlock code (note: it’s not asking mep code just user code). If not cell phone code inserted after that it update rom automatically. 4. Now your phone reboot, next you get mep code(10 left) in network lock segment. Once you finish resetting the MEP counter don't waste the 10 attempts again. Because you can't reset the counter often. Get the subsidy code from a reliable source and unlock it. For example you can get the accurate unlock code from [removed 3rd party link] at affordable cost. All the best mate.
