When I try to setup the email acount, the device asks for Username and password.  I understand that the BB Id is the password and the username is the email address. every try the device tells me username is invalid.

Oh...I see now...BB ID and the email setup credentials may or may not be integrated at your carrier; likely they are not. Hence, what it is asking you for is separate from your BB ID credentials. It needs your BIS credentials. If you don't know what those are, then you need to contact your carrier as they manage that account for you.
