Re: water damage

i accidently knocked a glass of water over and it went straight over my blackberry bold 9780. i panicked and turned it on, and i cant type in my password because when i type in letters it types extra letters with it! ive gone over it with a hairdryer on low heat and put the phone without the battery in a bag of dry rice and left it on top of a radiator, and the rest of the phone pieces (battery, sim card, memory card, back of phone) are sitting on the radiator as well.

I would appreciate it if someone could tell me something i could do to make it work as well as the things i have said.

Many thanks!

Re: water damage

ph-ti, at this point, time is your friend, so be patient for 4-5 days and leave it in the rice. Do NOT check it by putting the battery in. There's a great chance you'll be fine.

Re: water damage

I keep seeing people suggesting using a hair dryer to help save a water damaged phone.....this is a bad idea as it only drives the water deeper into the phone. I suggest using a vaccuum cleaner instead. then put it in silica packs or rice and put it in a fridge. the fridge is a dry environment and will help remove water

Re: water damage

Agreed, the hairdryer can also get too hot.

Re: water damage

Hi everyone!

I lost my blackberry curve 8520 out last saturday night. I rang the bar on sunday and thankfully my phone had been found but they told me water had gotten into it as it had been found in a bathroom. They told me that they were drying it out for me and for the last two days it has been dried out in a hot press until I got it back this morning. The battery was gone so when I went to charge it today the red light lit up but it wouldn't turn on. Then the light went off after a few minutes and an empty battery symbol appeared on the screen with a red x through it. I have the phone itself covered in uncooked rice for the past few hours as I heard this is good to pull out any leftover water. I am just wondering if the device itself is working? Would the screen or light work if the device was destroyed by the water? Could it just be that it won't charge or turn on because the battery is water damaged beyond repair? Hoping that this is the case as then I would just need a new battery. If anyone could let me know if they think this is the case or if they have any idea on my situation, I would really appreciate it. Smiley Happy
