Re: water damage

a few hours in the rice is not enough.. even with two days in a hot press (and I don't even know what a hot press is).

So...

1. Remove the battery immediately!! Do not attempt to turn on your BlackBerry.
2. Let the device dry in a warm, dry place for 3 to 5 days* (see below)
3. DO NOT "check it each day" by placing the battery in. Leave it be to dry completely. This takes time. Replacing the battery to check it can only damage it more (moisture + electrical current = disaster).
4. If the device is warm after the drying period, allow it to cool to room temperature before placing the battery back in.

Suggestions on drying your BlackBerry in a warm place (open, with the battery out):
*Place the BB in a container of dry UNcooked rice, and then you might also place it in any of the locations mentioned below.
*On top of any dry heat emitting electronic component: TV cabinet or CRT, LCD, cable TV/Satellite converter box or plasma monitor
*On the dashboard of your car on a sunny day

The procedure above is most useful one...you've had an accident, and the cleanup is not quick. That's just the way it is. Further, the only thing predictable about moisture intrusion into a BB (indeed, any electronic device) is that the results will be unpredictable. I've seen some come back up right away and be fine. I've seen others never work at all. I've seen still others run for a bit, and then die later. And every thing in between. But, if you do nothing, you pretty much guarantee the outcome.

Good luck!

You can either way that long, or you can hope to high heaven the water damage is not present and gamble that you will have to use a 5 pound cheapie.

There's not a quick way to dry the device out, and the longer and more patient you are, the more likely you will have a working device in the long run.

Re: water damage

Like the others said put in warm place and after the main components are mostly dry put it in a bowl of rice with the battery removed, due to rices extra asorbent abilities
