ARGHH!! Everything was erased!!!

After being unable to download a simple word file to my PC, the Playbook instructed me to download an updated operating system.  Done.  But EVERYTHING is now erased - no books that I have purchased in Kobo, no word documents, no pdfs - everything gone.  Help!

did you do a full reboot, just in case (hold power button for 10 seconds).

Also plug your device to your computer and then look at the folders to see if the files are there.

you can download a free app called air browser to also navigate through files to see if the files are there.
